Whitetails Unlimited (WTU) Service Record

  • Outstanding Achievement Award — For 15 years of dedicated service to the local chapter effort to raise money for local community needs. Most notably was a project called "Hunters Against Hunger." This was a local project I helped WTU Field Director, Tim Powers, introduce and develop. The program allowed for banquet proceeds to cover the processing of deer that hunters willingly donated to participating meat lockers. The processed venison was then picked up and distributed by the Hawkeye Area Community Action Programs (HACAP) food pantry to those most in need. It was a wonderful and successful program for everyone involved. The pantry challenged us every year to increase the amount of processed venison and every year we met the challenge. Many people including members of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Representatives from the State learned of its goodness. Our local Hunters Against Hunger program has now been replaced by a very similar statewide program called "Help Us Stop Hunger" (HUSH). What a truely rewarding experience that continues to shed positive light on the many who choose to participate in hunting.
